In the wake of the fateful bushfires in Australia that have torched over 13.5 million acres, destroyed more than 900 homes, and claimed the lives of half a million animals and over 20 humans, the fashion industry has been doing its bit to express its solidarity with the affectees. Balenciaga is the latest from the fraternity to support the cause and has released T-shirts and hoodies, featuring an image of the vulnerable Australian Koala bear.
Among one of the most affected animal species are koala bears, up to 30% of which may have been killed in the NSW mid-north coast fires, according to Australia’s environment minister. The launch of the merchandise follows the announcement of making a sizeable donation to the cause by Kering Group. All proceeds from selling the pieces will go towards a local conservation organization selected by the Kering Group and Balenciaga’s sustainability experts. The T-shirts and hoodies are unisex and will be sold exclusively on Balenciaga.com, starting tomorrow.
