Today, the UAE celebrates the 77th birthday of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, a leader whose vision and leadership have transformed Dubai into one of the world’s leading global cities

Born in 1949, Sheikh Mohammed showed ambition and determination from an early age. After completing his education in Dubai, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he attended the Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot. He graduated with the Sword of Honour, awarded to the top Commonwealth cadet, an early recognition of the leadership qualities that would define his public service.

Since becoming Ruler of Dubai in 2006, Sheikh Mohammed has overseen the emirate’s continued rise as one of the world’s leading hubs for business, tourism and innovation. Guided by his belief that “Dubai will never settle for anything less than first place”, he has spent the past two decades working to shape the emirate into the global city it is today.

His Highness’ famous words, “They say the sky is the limit. We say, ‘The sky is only the beginning,’ reflecting the ambition that has defined his leadership. His drive to advance the emirate has never slowed. Under his leadership, Dubai launched landmark initiatives, including Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and the Dubai International Financial Centre, cementing its position as a regional hub for technology, media and finance. Major developments such as the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, Palm Jumeirah and the expansion of Dubai International Airport further elevated the emirate’s global standing.

Beyond public life, Sheikh Mohammed is a celebrated poet, an accomplished endurance rider, the founder of Godolphin, one of the world’s most prestigious and successful thoroughbred horse racing stables, a philanthropist and a lifelong champion of Emirati heritage. 

His literary pursuits reflect the same depth of vision and reflection, and known for his passion for reading and writing, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has authored several books that have become influential references on leadership, governance and personal development.

Today, that vision continues through initiatives such as the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which is shaping the emirate’s future for generations to come. At 77, Sheikh Mohammed shows no signs of slowing down, continuing his pursuit of a city that offers the highest quality of life for its citizens, residents and future generations.
