Villa 88 Travels | Old World Luxury Meets Contemporary Charm At The Maybourne Beverly Hills

Nestled in the Golden Triangle of the iconic City of Dreams, the Maybourne Beverly Hills is an elegant haven that redefines opulence and indulgence, offering an unparalleled blend of comfort, sophistication and Californian cool. The hotel is the first North American property from Maybourne Hotel Group, owners and operators of London’s most legendary hotels – Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley – as well as The Maybourne Riviera, set on the Côte d’Azur, France.

From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was enveloped in an ambiance that effortlessly balanced classic elegance with modern allure. The Maybourne’s attention to detail was evident in every corner, from the meticulously arranged floral displays to the artful interplay of textures and colours that adorned the common spaces. The juxtaposition of Californian art by artists like Alex Israel to little library nooks paying homage to the hotels’ British counterparts, all signal the arrival of the future of luxury hospitality. While the property spans nine floors, there is a feeling of intimacy created by both the design and the service staff.

One of the highlights of my stay was the hotel’s commitment to impeccable service. The staff at The Maybourne was a seamless blend of professionalism and warmth, making me feel like an esteemed guest rather than just a traveller passing through. From the personalised check-in experience to the insightful recommendations for exploring the city, the staff’s dedication to ensuring a flawless stay was evident at every turn. Of particular note was their recommendation to take a ride in the hotel’s pink Moke around the Golden Triangle complete with stops in the most Instagrammable sites in the area.

The suites at The Maybourne are a sanctuary of tranquillity and lavishness. Designed in collaboration with award winning interior designer, Bryan O’Sullivan, rooms are bright and spacious in soothing Californian pastel hues. Bespoke furniture including plush curvy sofas, Belgian vases, and artsy tables alongside architectural lighting and marble accents give the space a decidedly modern, yet posh feel. Synonymous with each Maybourne property, art plays a big role in the interiors with bespoke one-of-a-kind pieces lining the walls of the rooms. Luxe linens and a marble bathrooms with a built-in T.V and Dyson hairdryer elevate the guest experience to Hollywood star levels.

Meals at the hotel are a culinary feat. Breakfast can be taken from the comfort of your bed – menus delicately placed on your pillow the night before for ease of choice – or at the hotel’s buzzing all-day al fresco restaurant, The Terrace. The hotel’s privileged location offers guests unrestricted views and access to the verdant Beverly Cañon Gardens which are best enjoyed with a Cali staple matcha latte in hand at The Terrace. For a more laid-back option, The Maybourne Café, located just off the Terrace, serves small plates crafted from farmer’s market produce. Lunch is best enjoyed next to the rooftop pool – one of the largest in the area, surrounded by the chatter of Hollywood agents and holidaymakers alike.

As evening sets in guests and locals flock to the newly opened Dante Beverly Hills. This is the first location of the legendary restaurant and aperitivo bar Dante outside of NYC, making it an instant hit with the glitterati and a great spot for celebrity spotting. The drinks, wood-fired oven pizzas and live music provide the perfect backdrop as the sun dips below the LA skyline, with the Hollywood sign just visible in the distance. Not to be missed is The Maybourne Bar, a hidden jewel at the heart of the property. The intimate space, designed by André Fu is anchored by a spectacular bar carved from solid Turkish silver onyx surrounded by high bar stools in Yves Klein blue and photography by Mary McCartney.

With Rodeo Drive at your doorstep, and most of LA’s sights just a stone’s throw away, days are action-packed and by the time you return some pampering is required. Thankfully the hotel boasts one of the largest spas in the Golden Triangle. The 20,000 sq. ft space includes a stunning riad-style mineral pool, saunas, Turkish steam rooms, and Balinese-inspired relaxation rooms. With its old-world glamour style, walking into the spa feels equally luxurious and relaxing. Starting at the mineral pool I made my way into one of the most unusual massages I have ever experienced. My masseuse – whose client roster includes many a celebrity – has created a signature style of massage, a combination of Thai, sports, and shiatsu. Apart from feeling utterly relaxed, I left feeling perfectly aligned!

The Maybourne Beverly Hills transcended mere accommodation and emerged as an all-encompassing luxury destination. From the artfully designed suites to the rejuvenating spa experiences and exquisite dining offerings, every facet of the property exuded a commitment to providing an unparalleled experience. This haven of elegance and charm is a testament to Beverly Hills’ timeless allure, promising its guests an unforgettable journey into the lap of luxury.
