We awaited the digital launch of Chanel’s Cruise 2020/2021 collection with bated breath and it’s finally here, with the promise of a wondrous trip around the Mediterranean. ‘Balade en Méditerranée’, as the collection is titled, offers multipurpose pieces that are easy-to-wear and can all go together.
At once functional and fabulous, the collection has been conceived to travel light, with pieces that can be easily transformed, from long skirts that can be uses as dresses when pulled up, to long jackets in black chiffon, which can be mixed-and-matched with an embroidered bandeau top and jeans. Think about leather suits in Bougainvillea pink, and the classic tweed that’s been left unlined for more fluidity.

Originally scheduled to take place on 7 May in Capri, Italy, the Cruise show was transformed for the French Maison’s digital platforms, so that you experience it first. With a dreamy campaign shot by by Karim Sadli, we felt the Mediterranean breeze blow past us as we watched the virtual show.

“The collection, more generally, evolved towards a trip around the Mediterranean. The islands, the scent of the eucalyptus, the pink shades of the bougainvillea,” Virginie Viard, Chanel’s Creative Director, said in a statement. The pieces summon up the free, laid-back allure of the legendary 1960s actresses, when they’d holiday on the Italian and the French Riviera. We’re dreaming of an exquisite European holiday, are you?
