UAE Designer Nazzy Beglari to Showcase ‘Wearable Art’ at Asia NOW Art Fair in Paris

UAE-based designer Nazzy Beglari is all set to display her fashion line, akin to art, at the forthcoming Asia NOW art fair in Paris this autumn. The 9th edition of the fair, slated for October 20-22 at the Monnaie de Paris, will shine a spotlight on nearly two dozen of Nazzy’s ikat kaftans and reversible coats, celebrated as pieces of “wearable art.”

Asia NOW, the Parisian art fair dedicated to spotlighting Asia’s contemporary artistic diversity, has earned its reputation as Europe’s premier event of its kind. This year, guest curators from the esteemed Berlin-based arts collective, Slavs and Tatars, will present a curated selection of artists from Central Asia exploring textiles as a medium for delving into themes of craftsmanship, identity, and information. Among this group, Nazzy stands out as the sole designer invited from the Middle East.

Nazzi’s artistic journey entails research into ikats, an ancient textile weaving technique. Her process includes sourcing tie-dyed hand-loomed ikat from master weavers in Uzbekistan, India, Japan, and Thailand. Ikat involves a unique binding technique, described as “tying clouds,” that results in its signature cloud-like patterns. Nazzi’s flair lies in her ability to combine multiple ikats, play with patterns and textures, and incorporate hand-embroidery and hidden messages, creating deeply personal pieces.

Each if the brand’s pieces are crafted in the NAZZY atelier in Abu Dhabi by a dedicated team of artisans, emphasizing small-scale, handcrafted production.
