Her Highness Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi has been appointed Chairperson of the Sharjah Museums Authority by an Emiri Decree issued by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, marking a new chapter for the Authority.
In her new role, Her Highness Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi will oversee 16 museums across Sharjah, spanning a diverse range of disciplines, including Islamic art and culture, archaeology, heritage, science, marine life, and the history of Sharjah and the wider region.
The appointment builds on Her Highness Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi’s extensive leadership across Sharjah’s cultural and academic landscape. She currently holds key roles at the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, The Africa Institute, Global Studies University and University of the Arts Sharjah.
Her Highness also serves as President and Director of the Sharjah Art Foundation, which she founded in 2009, and has led the Sharjah Biennial as Director since 2003, cementing her reputation as one of the region’s most influential cultural leaders.
Beyond the emirate, Her Highness Sheikha Hoor Al Qasimi has earned an international reputation as one of the leading voices in contemporary art and cultural leadership. Her expertise has seen her take on influential roles across the global art world, including curating the second edition of the Lahore Biennale 2020 in 2020.
More recently, she made history as the first non-Japanese artistic director of the Aichi Triennale 2025 in Japan. In 2026, she further cemented her global standing by curating the Biennale of Sydney 2026, one of the world’s leading contemporary art events.
