Three decades ago, a royal vision helped shape and drive human development at local, regional and international levels. Today, their legacy shines brighter than ever.
On Sunday night, Their Highnesses Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Emir, and Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, attended the celebration marking 30 years of Qatar Foundation — a foundation they founded together in 1995.
Education City – Al Shaqab, a venue of special significance to Their Highnesses, hosted the celebration. The event was also attended by their daughter, Her Highness Sheikha Hind Bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson and CEO of the Qatar Foundation, along with various ministers and dignitaries.
Her Highness Sheikha Moza said on Instagram “Qatar Foundation’s journey has spanned three decades – a journey in which visionary ideas and programs have been driven by excellence, quality and unrelenting determination to make profound change. Today we feel immense pride as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Foundation, which was once a dream and is now Qatar’s gateway to the future”
In her speech to attendees, Her Highness Sheikha Moza said: “Today we celebrate a pivotal moment in the history of the State of Qatar and the Middle East: the moment in 1995 when all the necessary elements converged to catalyse the creation of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.”
She continued: “We have been on a trailblazing journey, spanning three decades, in which visionary ideas and programs have been developed, driven by an unrelenting determination to arrive at our goal which is national and Arab at its heart, and international in its standards.”
Since its establishment in 1995 by His Highness the Father Emir and Her Highness Sheikha Moza, the Qatar Foundation has built and evolved a unique, integrated ecosystem of knowledge. Home to 13 schools and seven universities that have produced 17,500 graduates, the Foundation has undertaken pioneering genomics research over its 30-year lifespan that paved the way for the clinical implementation of precision healthcare in Qatar.
It has also guided the development of Qatar’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy and introduced Fanar — a groundbreaking AI model that facilitates an in-depth understanding of the Arabic language. Moreover, its programmes, initiatives and entities remain at the forefront of promoting Arabic cultural heritage and language, fostering cultural exchange through the arts, and engaging young people from Qatar, the region and around the world in meaningful discourse.
Education City has emerged as a vibrant hub of community life, offering opportunities for lifelong learning, cultural exploration and inclusive, accessible sporting pathways.
