Everything You Need To Know About The First Virtual Paris Haute Couture Week That Starts Tomorrow

Paris Haute Couture Week without a live audience? It’s happening. The French Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode has officially launched its dedicated online platform for the event, which will run from 6-8 July with an organized schedule of video presentations.

For the first time ever, fans around the world will get front-row access at the digital showcases of the brands. In the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federation had mapped out the way forward and how the virtual space would be best suited to present the couture collections.

The three-day event will present the latest Fall-Winter 2020/21 Haute Couture collections by brands such as Dior, Ralph & Russo, Chanel and Valentino on their respective official websites and the federation’s digital platforms. Here, we round-up a few highlights of fashion week that you can experience from the comfort of your home in your most fabulous PJs.

What to expect?

Ralph & Russo

You’re soon to meet Hauli, a digital avatar that has been created exclusively to showcase the Ralph & Russo presentation. The show has been created as a fantastical setting, set against seven contemporary wonders of the world, a superb escape from the realities that envelop us in the age of COVID-19. The brand describes the experience as one that will reflect “on the far-reaching beauty of our natural world and the digitally charged future.” We’re intrigued, are you? Monday, 6 July at 7:00pm GST

Dior

Directed by Matteo Garrone, the Dior show promises to evoke the magic of the Théâtre de la Mode touring exhibition (1945-46) that featured nearly 200 dolls in a miniature theater. “In that time of great difficulty [World War II], they came together to create dolls. And those traveled around the world, as a way to showcase the savoir-faire in a new way,” Maria Grazia Chiuri shares in a video teaser. And so, the presentation will unveil an exquisite selection of miniature creations, offering a lesson in history, craftsmanship and the wondrous marriage of art and fashion. Chanel

“Every millimeter counts. That’s couture,” we hear in the video teaser that showcases glimpses of the collection at the Maison’s 31 rue Cambon ateliers through the lens of filmmaker  Loïc Prigent. Expect Virginie Viard to bring forth Chanel’s unique savoir-faire, with embellishments and embroideries hand-sewn to perfection. Tuesday, 7 July at 2:00pm GST

Valentino

The collection will be presented as the inspiration for a live performance that has been conceived by Pierpaolo Piccioli in collaboration with artist Nick Knight. Offering a melange of art and fashion, the show will go live as a precursor to the performance that’s scheduled to take place  on 21 July at the Cinecittà studios in Rome. Can’t wait for the mystery to unravel. Wednesday, 8 July at 8:00pm GST
