This week, 27-year-old Emirati artist Ghaya Khalifa Almarar held a workshop titled ‘The Art and Heritage of Burqa Printing,’ which was organized by Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center.
The session was dedicated to accentuating traditional-wear with calligraphy, poetry and art, as a means of preserving the United Arab Emirates’ rich and diverse cultural heritage. The workshop was attended by students of American University of Sharjah and Zayed University.
Ghaya led the workshop, educating young women about the differences between the Burqa across countries in the Middle East and Asia, giving them insight into how different cultures adapt the traditional garment.
