Bal de la Rose 2026: Galaxy Rose Ball

For its 70th edition, Monte-Carlo’s most storied charity ball took its most audacious leap yet.

It began, as the best ideas do, with a conversation. Princess Caroline of Monaco, Christian Louboutin, and designer Benoît Miniou were talking about a rose. Not as a metaphor, but an actual Princesse de Monaco rose, proposed for orbital launch as both scientific experiment and poetic provocation: what happens to something this delicate when it meets the void?

The answer, it turns out, is the Bal de la Rose 2026.

Since 1954 the ball has operated as a kind of living portrait of the Principality’s cultural appetite, reinventing itself each year around a single unifying idea. Cuba, Bollywood, Constructivism, Disco. Each edition has been a world conjured for a single night, then dismantled before dawn.

Seventy years in, the Princess Grace Foundation’s annual charity spectacular has chosen the cosmos as its arena. Themed the Galaxy Rose Ball and held on 21st March at the Salle des Etoiles in the Sporting Monte-Carlo, this milestone edition is the most conceptually ambitious the ball has attempted. Under the presidency of H.R.H. The Princess of Hanover, who has once again given her friend Louboutin carte blanche, the premise was a spaceship voyage through exoplanets and stardust.

The Salle des Etoiles shifted colour each time the vessel landed on a new world, its portholes revealing extraterrestrial life beyond. With Louboutin’s eye governing the aesthetic and visionary designer Benoît Miniou shaping the spatial concept, it read as something carefully curated.

Stardust clouds bloom in the shape of flowers and immersive laser shows and sound design completed the architecture of another world. Nine hundred and fifty metres of mirrored tablecloth ran beneath 250 lamps conceived in the form of flying saucers, while roses floated above the tables in suspended, weightless arrangements. The effect was total immersion: the sensation, however briefly, of having left the earth behind. The dessert course, by Cédric Grolet, titled Galactic Exploration was designed around exquisite chocolate.

Seven artists performed across the evening. Rondò Veneziano opened, their Baroque-inflected Classical Pop establishing an unexpected elegance at the threshold of a galactic odyssey. Crazy Horse Paris followed, presenting its signature kaleidoscopic projections alongside pieces choreographed for the night. Ballet Kalinka brought an entirely different velocity, with Georgian, Ukrainian, and Gypsy traditions performed in full traditional costume. Berlin-based Dulce Compania took to vertical heights on stilts, in custom-made costumes.

Céline and Cain Kitsaïs, whose recent credits include the Chanel global campaign and a museum opening in Abu Dhabi, combined dance with large-scale stage effects. Then Leee John and Imagination closed the programme with the kind of 1980s British soul that has somehow become a universal language for collective joy. DJ Josh Quinton held the floor until morning.

The raffle, conducted by Stéphane Bern, offered a crystal-encased Louboutin Ultima Ballerina beneath a glass dome and a Chanel Bouton de Camélia choker in 18-karat white gold and diamonds, among other prizes from the luxury houses that have long made Monaco their spiritual home.

Every euro raised goes to the Princess Grace Foundation, which since 2000 has directed over thirty million euros toward pediatric hospitals, medical research, and the cultural infrastructure of Monaco. Founded by Princess Grace in 1964 and entrusted to the Princess of Hanover following her mother’s death in 1982, the Foundation gives the ball its moral weight, the thing that distinguishes a great party from a meaningful one.
