To cope with Dubai summer and sweltering heat, Kliendienst Group, which is developing The World Islands off the coast of Dubai, has announced the construction of a 1-kilometre-long ‘Raining Street’ at its Heart of Europe project.
In an attempt to allow visitors to remain comfortable while outdoors, the group says that the new project will help maintain temperatures in the country at 27°C, which otherwise rises above 40°C.

The company’s idea is based on a concept developed by Austrian architect Camillo Sitte, who proposed to build cities where everything was within walking distance. “With the temperature ranging between 40 to 50 degrees Celsius during summer, people are not going to walk outside. Therefore, we need a technology to create an outdoor climate-controlled area,” said Josef Kleindienst, chairman of Kleindienst Group in a statement to The National.
“So, we contacted engineers and consultants from the European institute who visited Dubai in 2008 to understand the climate here and conduct their research. The technology ensures that as soon as the temperature goes above 27 degrees Celsius on the island, cold water in the form of rain will fall from top of the buildings through concealed pipes.”
Raining street will be a magical addition to the Main Europe Island, next to the Portofino Family Hotel, Marbella Hotell and Cote d’Azur Resort. The Heart of Europe consists of seven islands and will have around 15 hotels and resorts in total, plus 4,000 holiday homes and a snow plaza. The project’s first home owners are reportedly expected to move in this year.
