A guide to a heat-resistant summer make-up routine

There is often a misconception about the toughest challenge during the summer. Some believe it is simply enduring the heat, while others argue it’s figuring out how to look good despite it.

Want to revamp your makeup routine to keep a glow this summer? Here’s everything you need to look effortlessly gorgeous this season.

Simple skincare

The secret of appearing radiant starts at the very root of your skin care routine. The key is keeping it plain and simple. Less is more. With the right base, you can slip into any outfit and still radiate refined elegance.

Primer

The first step of your make-up routine should always be a primer. This product creates a smooth, even base, helping your makeup last all day. Pick one that has a hyaluronic acid formula to lock your makeup in place even in the heat. These products keep the skin hydrated and form an effective barrier between skincare and makeup.

Tinted moisturizer

The next essential is a tinted moisturiser, preferably with SPF. This multitasking product offers sun protection and light coverage, in turn, eliminating the need for a heavy foundation, which can often feel heavy. A thin application is the key to a luminous glow.

Concealer

If you need more coverage, you can reach for a lightweight full-coverage concealer. To avoid layering too much on the face, which can add heaviness and lead to discomfort later in the day, only apply where needed. Ideally, under the eyes and on any imperfections you really want to cover. The Dior ‘Backstage Flash Perfector’ Concealer is a great example, famously known for its breathable, serum-like texture, adding to its lightweight attribute. For a more affordable, yet equally effective alternative, try the Too Faced ‘Born This Way Concealer’. Apply sparingly to reach the effortless, heat-proof look.

Bronzer

To warm up the face and enhance the natural tan, bronzer is your best ally, especially when applied with a soft, sheer touch. The ‘Viève Modern Bronzer’ is an excellent choice. It builds beautifully and can double as a subtle contour when applied with precision. Alternatively, you can reverse the technique and use the Makeup By Mario ‘SoftSculpt Shaping Stick’ as both a contour and a bronzer. Light touches create definition without feeling heavy or overdone. You can then set this in place with the Laura Mercier ‘Translucent Loose Baking Powder to tone down the shine and mattify sweat if needed ’.

Blusher

Now, for a sun-kissed look, add a touch of blush. The Hermes Silky Blush delivers a refined, splash of colour that is long-lasting. As a luxury product, it does come at a higher price point. Which is why we recommend the Rare Beauty Liquid blush, another amazing alternative that brings a radiant pop to any makeup routine. A light hand goes a long way with this blush as it is highly pigmented and you want to avoid layering on too much, which could take away from its natural charm.

Mascara

The last crucial steps are mascara and setting spray. One defines your lashes, while the other locks your makeup in place. A waterproof mascara is essential for withstanding humidity, preventing smudging or streaks throughout the day. The L’Oréal Telescopic Lift Waterproof Mascara is a standout option, as is the Hourglass Unlocked, both known for their lengthening effect and long-lasting hold.

Setting spray

Lastly, the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray seals your look and protects it against the heat, helping your minimal makeup stay fresh and last all day long.
