Swedish artist Jacob Felländer reimagines one of Soneva’s most recognisable signatures, the waterslide, as a work of contemporary art in Stockholm.
Soneva has brought a playful part of its Maldivian resorts to Stockholm, partnering with Swedish contemporary artist Jacob Felländer to turn its signature waterslide into a work of art. Titled “Soneva × Jacob Felländer: Joy Takes Form”, the installation explores movement, freedom and imagination, placing joy at the centre of the experience.

Unveiled on 23 September at Slakthusområdet, Stockholm’s historic Meatpacking District, the sculpture was introduced during an evening of art, food and conversation. An industrial venue was transformed for the occasion, bringing together friends of Soneva and longstanding guests to experience a different expression of the island spirit.

Felländer has reinterpreted the familiar shape through three material layers, each representing a different relationship with time. Raw, weathered metal symbolises the past and the memories that endure. The mirrored surface represents the present, reflecting light, movement and its surroundings. The final layer looks towards the future, suggesting freedom and possibility. Together, they are a reminder that joy is not fixed in time.

Chefs Adam Dahlberg and Albin Wessman created a menu inspired by Soneva’s three elemental characters. Earth reflected the lush jungle of Soneva Fushi, Water drew on Soneva Jani, and Air evoked the remoteness of Soneva Secret. The final course was called Whimsy.
The collaboration reflects Soneva’s Bare Luxury philosophy, which focuses on removing the unnecessary to create space for curiosity, discovery and connection. Soneva Chief Executive Officer Neil Gallagher described the slide as a reminder that luxury should make people feel something, saying Felländer’s interpretation captured the brand’s sense of freedom and joy.

Felländer highlighted the importance of imagination, intuition, empathy and play, describing art as a way to nurture these human qualities.
The installation remains at Slakthusområdet until 31 December 2026. From 12 to 24 November 2026, Felländer will also take up a Soneva Star residency at Soneva Fushi in the Maldives, leading workshops that invite guests to explore creativity and intuition through experimentation and play.
