Dubai Culture Launches ‘People & Legacy’ to Preserve the UAE’s Cultural Memory

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has launched People & Legacy, a new cultural and publishing initiative dedicated to documenting the lives of influential Emirati figures who have helped shape the UAE’s social, cultural, and intellectual identity. Designed to engage younger generations, the project reflects Dubai Culture’s commitment to promoting reading, supporting the Arabic language, and preserving national heritage through contemporary publishing.

Developed in partnership with Ghaf Publishing House, the initiative’s first phase includes ten specialised books highlighting Emirati pioneers across literature, culture, community, science, and economic development. Featured figures include Sheikh Ahmed bin Dalmouk, Ahmed bin Sultan bin Sulayem, Sultan bin Ali Al Owais, Humaid bin Sultan bin Humaid Al Shamsi, Ousha bint Khalifa, Rafeea bint Thani bin Qatami, Jaber Jassim, Ahmed bin Majid, Hassan Al Yamahi, and Sultan Al Shaer, among others whose contributions have shaped the nation’s cultural landscape.

Eiman Al Hammadi, Director of the Literature and Knowledge Department at Dubai Culture, described the initiative as an important investment in cultural preservation and publishing, highlighting the role of books in safeguarding national memory and strengthening cultural identity across generations.

The project also brings together a group of Emirati writers and illustrators to create the publications, reinforcing Dubai Culture’s continued support for local creative talent and meaningful cultural production.
