Jaipur Rugs has partnered with Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi to unveil Whispers of the Desert, a new handwoven carpet collection comprising ten unique carpets, each inspired by the beauty of nature and landscapes in Sharjah.

Conceived by Sheikha Bodour and crafted by Jaipur Rugs’ master artisans, Whispers of the Desert specifically draws inspiration from the ancient landscapes of Mleiha and Faya. These sites, which have witnessed more than 200,000 years of human presence, are approached as living archives, where land, memory and human experience remain deeply intertwined. Rather than replicating the landscape literally, the designs feature abstract motifs of stone, sand, and shadow through texture, colour, and design, with a neutral colour palette to reflect this notion. 

“This collection was guided by a shared belief between Jaipur and Sharjah that what is made with intention and care carries memory across time,” said Sheikha Bodour. “Whispers of the Desert honours landscapes such as Mleiha and Faya as timeless witnesses to human creativity and continuity. When cultural creation is approached with respect, it becomes a bridge between people and the places they inhabit, over generations.”

The collaboration brings together two UNESCO-recognised contexts: Sharjah, internationally recognised for its cultural leadership, and Jaipur Rugs, long known for preserving artisanal traditions while advancing modern design. The partnership reflects a mutual understanding that craftsmanship is not simply a skill, but a form of knowledge passed down through patience, practice and care.

Jaipur Rugs’ artisans employ traditional hand-knotting techniques, refined over centuries, allowing the materials to guide the process. Wool, texture and pigment echo the subtle rhythms of the desert, from the warmth of dawn light to the depth of night skies. The result is a body of work that rejects speed in favour of mindful creation.

The collection was launched at Bait Elowal in the Heart of Sharjah on 4 February 2026. Overlooking Sharjah Creek, the restored heritage house has long served as a site of exchange, trade, and dialogue, making it a fitting setting for a project focused on continuity and shared human experience.
