The Emir of Qatar and Sheikha Al Mayassa Get a First Look at Art Basel Qatar 2026

As Qatar prepares for the public opening of Art Basel Qatar 2026, marking a milestone for contemporary art in the region, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, and Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museum, alongside Princess Eugenie of York and number of guests paid a visit to the exhibition on Monday evening ahead of its public debut.

His Highness explored a selection of paintings, artworks and contemporary sculptures by participating local and international artists at M7 and the Doha Design District in Msheireb.

During his tour, His Highness the Emir viewed the Bouthayna Al Muftah’s installation, one of Doha’s leading contemporary artists, listening attentively as she shared her vision and creative process.

Art Basel is debuting in the Qatar for the first time, reflecting a remarkable growth of the country’s vibrant cultural scene and its standing as a leading artistic hub, driven by His Highness the Emir’s continued support and visionary commitment to the arts and culture.

Following the tour, HH The Emir and his sister Sheikha Al Mayassa attended a reception held at Qatar Preparatory School for Boys in honour of the participating artists and guests.
