Sheikha Al Mayassa expressed her delight in an Instagram post, sharing her joy at returning to Uzbekistan with her friends and family to attend the country’s first Biennial and explore its rich heritage and craftsmanship.
Sheikha Al Mayassa is known for her role in connecting and amplifying Qatar’s growing network of museums, heritage sites, festivals, and public art installations. She provides authentic cultural experiences while preserving and expanding the nation’s rich cultural landscape.
The Bukhara Biennial, organised by the Uzbekistan Art and Cultural Development Foundation (ACDF), marks its first edition with an impressive line-up of visual art, architecture-inspired installations, performances, poetry, and culinary experiences, all united under the theme Recipes for Broken Hearts.
The biennale unfolds across newly restored historic landmarks around Bukhara’s old city, reimagined and reintegrated into the urban fabric in collaboration with award-winning UAE-based architect Wael Al Awar. The event also highlights strong Arab representation, featuring artists from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Palestine. The Bukhara Biennale runs until 20th November.
